Forty seats are set out along the east range at ten to two. The doors close at two and stay closed. Nobody speaks for ninety minutes.
Somewhere between five and twenty-five past two, depending on the light, the Drowsebirds stop feeding and settle, and within about twenty minutes the whole population is down. The canopy noise falls away in stages as the other species follow. What is left is the fans, the water, and a building that is sixty-two metres long and completely silent.
Staff stay in the room throughout. If you need to leave, raise a hand and somebody will walk you out.
Before you book
Ages 12 and over. This is not about behaviour. It is about ninety minutes of sitting still in a warm room, which is genuinely hard, and a person who cannot manage it will have a bad time and so will the thirty-nine people beside them.
No photography of any kind, including phones. The room is very dark by the end and any screen carries across the whole range.
If you miss the two o’clock close, we will move you to another day. We cannot let you in late, because opening the doors is the one thing that reliably wakes the front rows.
